As the execution of Karina Karamazov came to a close, the screen displaying the horrid sight to the 14 remaining students faded to black. But then, something else replaced it. This time instead of a camera feed of a grisly murder or a vote tally, it was a series of statistics. VIEWING AUDIENCE POLL RESULTS
Most Likely to Die First: Suzuki Hayato (24.4%) Most Likely to be the Culprit: Shimakage Seitaro (19.1%) Best Waifu: Hirase Marin (30.3%) ... The list went on and on. For a moment, you forgot that people were actually watching you from the outside world. But that just made it all the crueler, knowing that not only were others watching in on you, they were actively participating in the program that was torturing you and your classmates. As you watched on, eventually Krampusuke spoke up. With that, Krampusuke hopped up the spiral staircase leading back to the roof. You figured he was probably going to start the sleigh up again to head back to the lodge. Although you weren't sure if you could even process all that happened, you knew that you had to get going soon.

Post by Shimakage Seitaro on Dec 17, 2017 19:01:18 GMT -5
It was easy to forget how easily a life could be snuffed out. Not, of course, that Shimakage had any first-hand knowledge in that field - lord knows he wasn't exactly a man of God, but he wasn't a killer - but he did know how easily a human's spirit could be broken. It made sense, then, that their bodies were fragile as well. As Karina's body was impaled, as her blood stained the blade of the spike, as her corpse faded from view as though it was little more than garbage to be discarded, Shimakage only watched. He couldn't bring himself to feel any pity for the ballerina (she was being punished as a result of her own actions after all), nor for her friends. But what was unusual was how oddly silent he was. For once, not a single snarky comment left his lungs. Someone who didn't know him that well might have assumed he was, finally, showing some respect for the dead, or perhaps that the execution had shaken him to his core, but neither were true. It's just...that he felt nothing. At least, not until his own name flashed on the screen, and the conman's eyes lit up like a beacon.

Yanagi's hands tremble. He doesn't know what to do, doesn't know how to breathe when he watches Karina. He'd participated in this, had allowed this, and now she was dead. End of sentence, end of life, as though she wasn't there to begin with. He still remembers what her voice sounded like, but he wonders how long that would last. He doesn't want to watch, anymore, instead staring at his podium with shock until he hears voices- specifically, Shimakage's- and looks up to stare curiously at the statistics pouring over the screen. He knows he's reading the words, but they mean nothing to him, instead letting himself simply blend in. "Oh," he mumbles, weakly, in response, staring at the screen as though feigning some sort of interest in the words that appeared. In truth, he couldn't care less what some strangers thought of him, or his peers- all he cared about now was getting the fuck out of here before someone else- or, more worryingly, he died. (Was this what it was like to mourn?) He didn't know. Didn't know anything, as he blindly followed everyone out of the room, even as he chose a direction and walked, eyes trained on the ground in front of him. He had to turn his thoughts off, had to turn his panic off- and he had to rely on common sense in order to stay afloat. As soon as he sees a building, he enters it, not caring who, or what, he may find inside.

....
He didn't know when the crying had stopped, but by the time the execution had ended, all that was felt was emptiness. There was also the faint feeling that he was this close to spacing out and letting his body run on auto pilot until he left the trial room.
Of course, that's exactly what he did-- after Krampusuke had said his piece that was.
Either way, there's no reason for you to cry over the poor little ballerina girl. If only you knew about the things she's done before coming to Hope's Peak Academy... Well, then you might even just hate her more than the Mastermind.
Now in the sleigh, Ootani allowed himself to space out, thinking back onto the execution and Krampusuke's off-putting words.

🐧 --- Ending things off with a flippant 'see you later' had the opposite effect from what they had wanted to achieve. They thought that they would feel better avoiding the word 'goodbye', but it only helped to make them feel just a little worse than they had expected. Karina was gone, and it was the truth now-- no more will she roam around the halls of the cabin, playing games or talking with other people as a person of her age would have been. They hadn't considered themself to be close, but it felt weird. Awful, in words that they'd never admit to. However, they didn't understand. Or rather, they didn't want to understand. Wouldn't it be better to feel nothing, rather than to feel something towards a situation like this? It was just something they made up, they would tell themself. They didn't actually care, did they? (...That's why everything should be laughed at, Osatsu! Everything's a joke. We're all cogs in a machine that live meaningless lives.)Their eyes trail across the trial room in a lazy manner, and while it was difficult from where they were, they noticed the familiar pattern of... well, what a person crying would do from Ootani, which, at first, hit them a little later than expected. They stared at the architect with wide, almost surprised eyes, and they opened their mouth to call out to him, a line of concern dancing at the end of their tongue-- before being interrupted by Krampsuke that the execution was ready, and their attention was instantly taken from them. Watching the execution doesn't bring up a reaction from them. It was when the execution ended that they started to unthaw, beginning with a small 'heheh' before dissolving into a laugh-- only to be quickly stiffled by using the back of their hand to cover their mouth, eyes casted over to the side. Karina was dead! Great! And they were all to blame. This day just kept getting worse and worse, from being accused of murder to this. With people watching too! It was funny, really, that in just less than a day, things could just go horribly wrong. (Though a part of themself knew it wasn't.) They muttered under their breath, as their stifled laughter died down to chuckling, and then eventually to silence as they made their way over to the sleigh like everyone else did. Though, instead of drifting into their thoughts and quieting down, the sight of a certain person reminded them of something earlier, and they quickly and not so subtly just plop themself right next to where Ootani was. It takes them an awkward few moments to gather their thoughts before they looked up at him with a slightly concerned look on their face. They raise their hand as if to untie the bandanna that was tied around their arm, only to pause midway through, frozen in place on as if they're debating on if they should really offer something like this right now. It did... well... not really... hm. A few blinks later, and they finish untying the bandanna that was tied around their arm, and holds it out to Ootani. --- 🐧

And of course, his head was pulled out of the clouds by someone saying his name.
...Not that Ootani really minded, though he would've liked to have a few moments of radio silence before any social interaction. But that's just what happens sometimes.
It wasn't until the bandanna was in his view did he finally realize who exactly was talking to him-- forcing himself to chuckle before taking the cloth.
"What else is new?" He answers with a tired smile, holding the cloth in his left hand. "But thanks, Osatsu-san."

🐧 ---
There was a distinct roll of their eyes at Ootani's response before they turned their head to look forwards.
"That's just a little too defeatist and negative even for me, Ootani-san. Liven up."
A pause.
"...Want to continue making tarts."

Post by Marugou Madoka on Dec 18, 2017 16:46:17 GMT -5
Madoka couldn't believe what she was seeing.
When the word 'execution' came up, the detective had braced herself for common practices such as electric chair, firing squad or deadly poison. It would've been still difficult to watch - there was no question about it -, but at least she thought that she could prepare herself to a certain degree for what was about to come.
Oh, how wrong she'd be about that.
It already started with how Karina was taken to her execution ground; a chain latched onto the ballerina's neck and violently dragged her to god-knows-where. Madoka's eyes instantly darted to the screen when she saw it change out of the corners of her eyes, being glued to the device that let them witness Karina's last moments. The brown-haired girl didn't dare to look away - after all, she knew well enough that even though it couldn't be helped through their circumstances, they still voted for a young girl to die. The only thing that Madoka could do for the condemned despite being furious at her actions was to burn the remainder of her life into her memories, no matter how difficult it would get.
Despite herself, Madoka rooted internally for the other girl to escape death, even though the chances of that happening were close to zero. She knew very well that their oh-so-gracious hosts wouldn't make a blunder like that, especially at the beginning of something as twisted as this, but a tiny shred of childish naiveté still hoped and prayed for another outcome.
Natrually, this hope had been for naught the moment Karina fell to her death - Madoka flinched harshly when she saw the girl being impaled so cruely, before everything collapsed on top of her. There was anguish on her face - no one deserved such a cruel death. It was inhumane and that was far and beyond what Madoka would call justice.
It was a sick mockery, nothing more.
(Madoka vowed to herself anew that she would find the mastermind and bring them down.)
When the execution concluded, the screen changed to some statistics that Madoka didn't care about one bit. What, should she believe that because of some numbers, this was an actual tv show? No, she still remained skeptic about it for various reasons - it would take more than that to convince her that the majority of people would be twisted enough to enjoy something as sick as this madness.
As soon as Krampusuke opened his mouth, the detective just glared daggers at him in silence. How tasteless could this stupid gremlin even get?
The detective decided to simply brush it aside and after standing at her podium for a few more seconds, she muttered something very quietly:"... Night, Karamazov." And with that, she went to the sleigh just like the rest of the students. As she sat down and waited for their arrival at the lodge, she already decided to spend her time productively and not shut in her room - right now, she needed all the distractions she needed to keep herself intact.
(And the announcement of new places to be explored just provided her the perfect opportunity to do so.)

Now that earned a more lively chuckle from Ootani.
"Sorry about that, I'm just..," He makes a noncommittal gesture with his left hand, not sure on how to say what was on his mind. Though he figured Osatsu probably wouldn't want to hear much about it at the moment. So he left it at that.
"But, I'd love to continue making tarts. I was thinking of doing so later."
A loud yawn makes itself known right after his response, causing him to cover his mouth.
"...Though uh, I should probably get some rest before I do make tarts, haha."

🐧 --- There's a slight raise of their eyebrows at Ootani's response, as if they hadn't realized that it was really late. With all that's happened to the class over a span of a few hours, sleep was at the back of their mind, pushed aside to make room for everything else that they had to think about.
A simple sigh escapes them, before they jokingly pout up at him. There's a pause, before they allow that pout to drop from their face, and be replaced with their usual cryptic smile. Another awkward pause. Osatsu's having fun with that. With that cryptic reply, they allowed themself to go quiet for the remainder of the sleigh trip, leaving without another word when it finally arrived. --- 🐧
