The results are projected onto a giant screen in the back of the room, showing that all of the votes were for Karina. He let out a little giggle before continuing. It was time to say your last goodbyes to Karina Karamazov.

Madoka was grimacing.
If not for Karina's sudden confession, she would've surely continued her little side debate with Shimakage; but alas, that instantly became an insignifcant thing when their captured culprit spilled out the deeds about tonight. It was almost surreal to hear how Mukizu was murdered and why it had to be him to begin with.
(Mukizu, the mastermind? Really?)
Shortly afterwards, Krampusuke told them that it was time to vote on the person whom they thought murdered one of their fellow classmates. There was no hesitation whatsoever in her movement when Madoka put down her vote for Karina. The ballerina did admit to her heinous crime, after all - no need to prolong the inevitable any further than needs be.
However, that didn't mean that Madoka would stay silent.
(Briefly, she remembered the good time that they had in the library--)
(It stung.)
The detective peered at the smaller girl with furrowed eyebrows, hands tightly gripping the podium in front of her as her mouth was drawn into a slim line. A mixture of emotions were displayed on her face - ranging from dull sadness to an anger that was akin to a vulcano shortly before its outbreak.
"... Why didn't you consult anyone about your suspicions? Especially when you were convinced that it had to be him?", Madoka began quietly, but slowly, her nonchalant demeanor broke,"I would've heard you out, y'know? I didn't know that Mukizu was monitoring us through the secret room, so if you would've only told me about it, we could've confronted him with this."
Her voice became louder, layered with ire:"For all you know-- for all we know, he might've kept quiet about this discovery to catch the mastermind off guard! Maybe he was waiting for them to slip up somewhere. Maybe he simply wanted to keep surveillance over the entire building in case someone went ahead and murdered someone! Right now, we can only speculate his intentions, because he's dead!"
The detective gritted her teeth, not caring one bit that her composure was gone. At the end of the day, she was still a kid - a child that just lost a friend and got betrayed by another. There was only so much that she could take before blowing up on whatever caused this happenstance to begin with. Right now, it just happened to be Karina.
She exhaled sharply as she continued:"Don't get me wrong, though - I'm not happy about him being so sneaky either, but that hardly justifies killing him in cold blood! Especially when this circumstancial evidence was only flimsy at best! Have you ever asked yourself for even a minute why the mastermind would be stupid enough to hide such a suspicious room in a place that could be easily linked to them? If anything, their aim was to cast doubt onto Mukizu, so someone would actually act upon their doubts and kill him, thus officially starting the mutual killing game! You literally walked into a trap! How could you not have seen this, Karamazov?!"
Madoka sounded truly upset, shaking her head in disappointment. The more she thought about it- the more she envisioned the what ifs that could've led to a better future, the more indignant she became. She shook slightly as her rant continued on:"I don't know why you couldn't have simply waited before acting so recklessly! It's possible that there's already help on its way here! Have you never considered this possibility? And yes, as much as I loathe to agree with Shimakage, we could've definitely lived here for a few months if it meant to keep everyone alive! We could've turned this entire supposed tv show around by simply not playing into their games whatsoever! Nobody had to die for this!"
At this point, Madoka was almost shouting when she said the following:"Have you ever considered how others would feel about you murdering another classmate in case you were wrong? Have you?!"

This was for real.
Sure, it was obvious that this killing game was real when they had found a dead butler not too long ago, but after listening to Karina's confession...it suddenly became too real. It was almost as if his hand moved on it's own as he pressed in his vote, staring quietly as Shimakage spoke and...now the results--
Jesus, she really did do it.
He let out a shaky breath and closed his eyes. This couldn't be happening.
Marugou's outburst was the last straw him for-- eyes snapping open and filled with a mixture of conflicting emotions. "Yo, what the fuck!? Wanna get your head out of your ass for a second? Like, don't get me wrong! I ain't saying killing the dude was right-- but are you hearing yourself!? Confronting him-- yeah, great idea! Because if he was actually the mastermind of course he'd just tell us, right? More like he'd hide any other proof we could've found. And if she told someone else about her suspicion and they were the real mastermind?" Utazawa sighed loudly, gripping his podium as if it were his last lifeline. "Get off your damn high horse. She walked into a trap-- that's the point of a trap, ain't it? If she didn't walk into it, someone else was gonna. No way we were gonna make it a few months without the game starting. Get real!"
"...She shouldn't have killed him, but...fuck, dude! I think she's going through enough considering she's about to fucking die, maybe cool it on the lecture."

"Marugou-san... I think that is enough."
She had said as she had walked up to the detective and lightly placed a hand on her sholder.
Her voice- as gentle and soft as it always been, had continued on as she had lifted her hand from the sholder.
"I think Karina-san- I believe she understands the weight of her own actions now. I feel a astounding guilt and overwhelming grief for Mukizo-san's death too- However there is no need to pick and thrash her anymore then we already might have."
She had did her best to give a gentle smile- friendly- and kind. With a deep breath, she had walked over to Karina. Once she had reached the girl, Isayama had calmly took both the shorter girl's hand, and held them in a way she had hoped would comfort the other- even if it seemed small.
"Karina-san- though you been highly misguided in your actions- you had tried to help all of us- and I am thankful for that. I do wish you could have talked to all of us before you had come to the decision you made- but wishing and preying on the past will not get us anywhere- whats done is done- and we can only look on to our future- we can only grow from our mistakes."
Her voice had shaken a bit- but had remained the soft, gentle tone it usually been.
"Karina-san, I do hope you can learn from this and grow stronger- despite of everything- I do not hate you in the slightest- I shall even pray for your peace and happiness. Just be a little more honest with us next time- okay?"
She did not want to believe in things such as executions- not now as she had already seen one of her peers fallon.
She had looked with Karina- smiling gently- as a mother would.
Mukizo-san did not deserve to be killed- but that didn't mean Karina's deserved worse. Two wrongs did not make a right.
And so here the shrine maiden was- clinging onto a false sense of hope and security.

Madoka's eyes snapped to Utazawa, furrowing down to dangerous slits. Oh, now that was just absolutely rich coming from someone who opened this entire trial up with a tasteless joke!
"What, am I not allowed to express my goddamn anger at someone who killed my friend?! What do you want me to do, just smile and wave it off?! Keep quiet and bottle it up?!", she growled at the red-haired boy,"Can't you think for second that by confronting him, I wouldn't assume that he would tell us that he was the mastermind if he'd actually been it?! Hell no, but we could've certainly made it a lot harder for him to spy on any of us! Make the existence of the secret room known to everyone and organize our guard shifts accordingly! And like I said, Karamazov told us herself that she was convinced that it was him - so in her eyes, it would've made more sense to consult us with her suspicions. It didn't have to come to this."
It seemed like as if she was absolutely not having any of Utazawa's accusiations today:"Oh and before you start spouting nonsense on how I wouldn't have believed Karamazov's claims because I was friend with Mukizu - I think I already demonstrated clearly enough in this trial that I'm more than capable of setting this and that aside to grasp the truth. So yeah, don't even start going down that particular lane if you want to continue this."
"Oh and I'm sooo sorry that your trust in humanity seems to be so low. I was simply hoping that people would be rational enough to not go ahead and kill someone only after a few days! Really, what a horrible human being I am to hope for a better outcome, huh?", ... was this sarcasm that she just used?
The detective exhaled loudly, huffing at the vocalist:"It's not like I want for her to die either. If possible, I'd like to avoid that entirely, but we're powerless. There's nothing we can do right now - for either Karamazov or Mukizu. And that's why I'm angry. So yes, shove that stupid 'get off your high horse' comment where the sun doesn't shine. I don't need some Cluedo guy tell me how to act or feel, thank you very much."
Madoka was probably being too harsh on the poor guy, but once stronger emotions got ahold of her, she had a bad habit of getting more and more caught up within them.
Thankfully, Isayama came to her side and tried to calm her down as much as she could. The detective took a few deep breaths, glaring daggers at Utazawa, before slowly directing her gaze towards the taller girl. It seemed like as if the shrine maiden was far more successful in her attempts than Utazawa was - the brown-haired girl crossed her arms and huffed once more, before quietly responding with a lot calmer tone:"... I know. I really do, I just... Sorry for the outburst."
And with that, Madoka fell silent.
A part of her perfectly understood that Karina had been acting in everyone's best interest, but it would never make Madoka not furious that two lives vanished needlessly. There were so many better options, so many things that could've been done better... but they were stuck with this.
(Oh, she just wanted to go ahead and lock herself in her room now.)

An ordinary person would recognize that now is not the time for petty arguments. After all, one boy had just been murdered, and his teenage killer was just moments away from being sent to the gallows. Even Marugou seemed to recognize that their squabbles could wait, as she was quick to drop her exposé as soon as the votes rolled in. Shimakage, however, is not an ordinary person, and when Utazawa pipes up after ages of silence, his expression contorts into one of complete disbelief. Strong words from a fellow felon.

"...Psch, whatever, bro. I don't have fucking time for this-- just glad you think we should all care about how you feel when you clearly don't care about how that chick feels, or the people who don't agree with you."
And then...he dabs.
Who let him live this long.

Well, so much for Madoka's silence - though thankfully, it wouldn't be long before she would fall back on it.
After Shimakage said his piece, the detective had only this to say to Utazawa:"Because you, of all people, know whether I care for others or not, right? How about you hear yourself for a moment? At least I was taking this entire thing seriously from the beginning, unlike you. So, what's up? That's what I do to my haters."
And she flips him off. Marvelous.

He... Was wrong.
While he'd learned over the days he'd spent in the lodge that his intuition was not to be trusted, he thought surely he was smart enough to figure this one out. It had seemed so obvious- until Karina had confessed, had sent the trial spiraling into truths being revealed, and he was left gaping at the scene unfolding before him. He was too stunned to even vote, too stunned to do anything but stare until Madoka began to speak, anchoring him back to the present as he blinked at her.
"Madoka-chan-..."
(... Is right. That's what you want to say, isn't it?)
He couldn't find the words, couldn't find the space amid the shouting and arguments, and instead sat silent, watching the candy-coated niceties dissolve before his eyes. He knew, intellectually, that this group couldn't possibly all like each other all the time- that it was human nature to fight and claw, but he didn't think it would happen so soon. His gaze flickered, uncertain, to Shimakage, curious as to what sort of vendetta Madoka had against him, but there was no time to ask- and certainly not in front of this crowd, who seemed especially volatile in this second.
"Madoka-chan," he tries again, voice clearer as he addresses her- and his expression softens for just a moment before he clears his throat and speaks again. "Shimakage-san is on your side. And... So am I. We... We should try to work together, I think. That way, no one... No one else has to die."
(Inspiring speech from someone with no ground to stand on when it came to morality.)
Speaking of morality, as Yanagi mentally runs over the events of the trial, the color drains from his face when he realizes, once again, how wrong he'd been. He'd almost sent someone innocent to the gallows, and didn't believe their defenses. Guilty until proven innocent was no way to think, was no way to treat his peers, and when his gaze settles on Osatsu, he almost doesn't know what to say.
"I-... I'm sorry, for the things I said, Osatsu-san. Er... Believe me, I was just... Shaken up from the events of today. I- I meant no harm," he mumbles, feeling the weakness in his words as though they were a straw house.
(Why did he feel so bad for himself, when he wasn't the one about to be punished for his misdeeds? Self-doubt was not something he needed, anymore.)

Post by Karina Karamazov on Dec 15, 2017 22:28:00 GMT -5
Even though Karina could just hear her life clock ticking away, she tried to keep a calm composure. Shimakage’s words prior to Krampusuke’s vote announcement still bounced around in her thoughts. He was right. He was so very right about her. It made her feel ashamed and foolish, but like she’d let him now that. After all, she still had some dignity left.
Then Marugou started speaking to her, and Karina slowly lost her composure. She had expected this and she truly did understand those feelings. The anger, confusion, and anguish. She understood them all way too clearly. Though, she may have been overestimating herself as the detective went on. With each word and her voice growing louder, Karina tensed up and winced. At times she opened her mouth for wanting to explain and answer Marugou’s questions, but nothing came out. She couldn’t find the right words. Was there any right words to say in a situation like this? There… probably wasn’t. So she let Marugou vent, and hoped maybe that would give her some comfort or relief. She had Karina’s full attention despite the pain she felt.
Utazama defending her was a huge shock. For someone who started off a trial for murder with a joke, this was… unexpected. The fact that he pretty much said what she thought of saying was the cherry on top. She would’ve never thought that he had this in him. It was too bad she never spoke to him before. Maybe she could have liked him, but alas her time was almost up. She flashed a quick, weak smile towards him before fixating on Isayama and her actions.
Karina was right. Isayama was truly too good for this. She doesn’t deserve this at all. Karina could feel anger swell up inside at how cruel this is, and how much she wanted everyone to get out. How much she wants the mastermind dead. The ballerina was so caught up in her thoughts she failed to realize Isayama approaching her. She jumped when she felt hands take her own, looking up with pure confusion and… is that fear?
The tone the shrine maiden used, coupled with her motherly smile, made Karina melt. She doesn’t deserve this type of kindness or care. She killed Mukizu without hesitation after discovering his cameras. She only felt guilt after learning he wasn’t the mastermind. Yet Isayama offered her comfort. Karina was speechless and stared at her. A part of her wanted to push her away, but another wanted her to stay. She looked absolutely pained and her hands were starting to tremble, but she still squeezed the other's hands. A silent show of gratitude and asking her to stay.
Karina grumbled at Shimakage's words, but only snapped when he called her a felon. She whipped her head towards him and spoke in a low, menacing tone.
She softly repeated that last sentence to herself for comfort. For denial.

He decided to just ignore Marugou. It was pretty easy, as he'd dealt with HATERS before...though most of them were online.
Instead he focused on Karina, wondering how exactly she was handling all of the fighting surrounding her, only to catch her smiling weakly in his direction. It came as a shock, and admittedly he...didn't really know how to react, frozen in shock. The things he said weren't anything special, really, it was just what he thought was common sense...or well, common sense to him. Obviously not everyone here could agree.
"Karina," Compared to his small fit earlier, his voice was much smaller and filled with uncertainty. "...Not everyone agrees, but I really don't think what you did was that bad. Not...great but...jesus, you literally just got used in someone else's plan. It's not all your fault." He glared at Shimakage as he spoke. Wrow.

It felt terrifying, the fact that someone had actually murdered one of their classmates, their friends. Her hands felt clammy and cold, after all-- Mukizu was someone she had spent quite a bit of time with, she wasn't sure what to think. The situation they were in was rather uncomfortable, a pit of despair settling in her stomach knowing that this would be far from over, especially since their chance was ruined, and now innocent people had died. Her eyes glanced over at Karamazov, not really sure what to say, a mix of melancholy and anger seemed to want to rise out. She was no detective, and in retrospect, she could understand how such was an obvious trap, but the anger... felt far less deserved at the moment.
"Karamazov... I can't say much on your actions, It pains me to know that one of us actually killed Mukizu..."
A silence on her breath, almost wanting to choke out her words, biting down on her lip as she averted her eyes. Was this going to be it, was this going to be what their lives had come to? She hardly wanted to believe that their lives would suddenly come to an end for some crappy entertainment show, where people put their lives on the line just to have some people watch in enjoyment from their suffering, completely detached from the situation. Heck, she could hardly imagine how people could watch this without wanting to vomit.
"Mukizu was my...friend too, but this situation is cruel-- it's putting us against each other, we're supposed to doubt one another. I believe that Karamazov would have not have done such if it were not for the... uncomfortable situation that we're in right now."
It was a lot of shock to take in, especially for one night. Everyone was tense, with mixed feelings about what had just happened. Maybe part of her was still denying it, still feeling that the whole situation was too surreal to be anything more than a dream. At least, she wished it was a dream.

🐧 --- There was a part of Osatsu that wanted things to go differently, that they were wrong in their suspicion. To be proven wrong, really. Perhaps it was because they had distantly recalled the time where they both played some games with each other, teaching each other on how to play certain games. It was a little bittersweet, to think that those times would serve as a weight on their shoulders. Though the other half of them sneered at the situation, and called it “stupid”. But that was colder and rational than they'd have liked it. Coming to terms with your own death is far different to handle in comparison to other people. Karina was someone that they didn’t know all that well, yet the concept that she’d suddenly disappear—that didn’t sit well with Osatsu at all. Their own death might bring them comfort, but there wasn’t anything comforting about someone else dying. They couldn’t even tell if they were jealous of her, or pitying her, really. Never would they admit the former, to say the least. Marugou's outburst seemed to snap themself out from staring blankly at the results, their gaze drifting over to where the ballerina stood. Somehow, they felt a surge of pity at seeing her being barreled with yelling from one end, and then the condescension from another. It felt... familiar. Yet, it was far different from any memory they had to laminate in comparison to this. They started to say, eyes flickering up and over to where the ballerina stood, an unsure pause inserting itself inbetween their words, as if debating on how to go with this. A smile grows on their face, but surprisingly, it was void of malice. It almost seemed sad in a way. With the way that they opened their mouth multiple times, it seemed like they wanted to say something-- but refrained from doing so. Besides, whatever they could say now wouldn't comfort anyone. They were a comedian after all, a comedian who built their career on the depressive mindset of the newest generation. What could they offer in these tense times. The last thing that anyone would want is a joke. (Though, that's not going to stop them, would it?) They scoff at the end of their statement, looking over to the side while grinning wide. Despite feeling a lump in their throat after ending it off like that, they moved on-- looking away from Karina before they could lose any part of them to human sentiment. Though, their eyes flicker over to Yanagi when he apologized to them, which was first met with a slightly amused 'pfffft' that comes out of the comedian's mouth, before they decided to go ahead and actually address it. --- 🐧

Everyone had their own pieces to say, and it just so happened that what they were saying-- were the words that Ootani wished he could express.
But he couldn't. He was shocked beyond words-- to the point he didn't even try to comfort the ballerina right next to him. Letting Isayama do the job while he just.. stood there. At the very least, he was thankful everyone said the words that he wanted to say. If they hadn't-- he's fairly certain he would've felt more bad than he already did.
Sniff-- sniff--
At first, he doesn't register the sniffling. Perhaps thinking it was someone else and not-- well-- himself.
However, it had been a long trial, and the result of who had killed the butler was enough to crush him. This was real? This was happening? One of their classmates was off to her death while the other was dead?
They all knew they were to find who did it-- he knew they were to find the culprit-- but did that mean he had to like it?
No.
And so, after a few moments of sniffling, he finally registers the fact he's crying. Crying for Mukizu-- crying for Karina-- and crying for those who didn't cry.

Post by Karina Karamazov on Dec 17, 2017 14:09:40 GMT -5
It’s one surprise after another from the one and only vocalist. He was starting to confuse and concern Karina by how his demeanor seemed to changed when it came to her. Still, she felt a need to lock eyes with him and offer a soft smile in hopes that would ease his concerns. If he truly was concerned for her, that is.
When Komatsuzaki called Mukizu a friend, it only started to dawn on her that Marugou said too. He had friends, huh? She took him away from his friends…
A certain memory started to resurface, but Karina desperately tried to shove it back. Even if that was difficult with Shimakage’s mocking and making points that she didn't even think of. All that mattered at the time was getting the deed done, and then following the plan she had for after they all escaped. Not this. Never this. This is exactly what she would prefer to avoid at all cost! Someone questioning her, and making her second guess her actions she believed was the right thing to do. Even if blood had to be shed.
Karina was scowling at the taller. She knew that responding to someone like Shimakage wasn’t a bright idea. He was probably doing all this just to rile her up, but she couldn’t stop herself. Every time he opened his mouth she felt disgust and disdain towards no one but herself. It was because he was right that bothered her the most, and why she just had to keep going at him. She didn’t want to admit that and she won’t verbally. She was thankful when Osatsu started to addressed her because she could turn her attention away, meeting her blue eyes with yellow ones. Though she regretted it soon after.
I just wanted to save everyone. However, at this point, she couldn’t bring herself to claim that anymore. Seeing how the other seemed to want to say something else, but couldn’t also made her stomach drop.
She looked composed, but by how shaky her voice was becoming and how her legs were trembling said otherwise. Part of her hoped that no one would hear her last line, but another wished someone did anyways. This was getting harder and harder to stand. Then Ootani crying right next to her was the last straw. She's making someone cry and it's all her fault. She's awful. Karina turned her body towards him and hesitantly reached out to rub his arm, hoping that would calm him down a little. Her eyes were glued to the floor and her grip on Isayama's hand grew firmer. Ah, if only her execution could happen right now. She really hates... seeing others cry.

After a few emotional moments between the students as they said their farewells to Karina, Krampusuke waited impatiently in the background, tapping his little foot. Although, since it was made of a thick, wooly material it made no noise.
He raised his pitchfork into the air where it began to glow red.
