Hello everyone! Here is a guide on how roleplaying on this forum will work.
Where to post
On the front page you will see a category called "Game". This is where all roleplaying on the forum will be taking place, everything outside of that is for out of character discussion. Each chapter will have its own board, to keep things a little clearer and easier to follow. As of right now you will only be able to see the Prologue board, but more chapters will be added as the game progresses.
During Prologue, you will make all of your threads and replies on the Prologue board. Once Prologue ends all of the posts made there will be kept in that board, but all future threads and replies will be made on the Chapter 1 board until that chapter inevitably ends.
Posting a thread
We will be using tags to categorize each thread. These tags will go in the title, and you just need to type them out at the start of the title.
These are the tags we will be using:
[PLOT] - This tag will be used to denote the fact that the thread drives the story forward. For the most part, these threads will be started by the moderators. However, we may drop by your planning chat and ask you to post your own plot thread. You can only make your own plot threads with mod permission.
For the most part, you will usually be allowed to post in a Plot thread regardless of who you are. However, we may ask you to hold off on replying in a few cases. For example, in a body discovery post we may ask you to let everyone involved in finding the body and us to post the body reveal art before other people can start joining in.
[FREE] - These are free time threads. Chances are if you're ever making a thread it's most likely going to be using this tag. These threads are just for character interaction that doesn't necessarily push the plot forward. You don't need our permission to make these threads. There's also two different types of free time threads: Opened and Closed.
Opened threads will allow anyone to reply to them, meaning you don't really care who replies. To denote a thread is opened, put (Open) somewhere in the title.
Closed threads will only allow people mentioned in the title to reply. These will generally be used if you just want a simple conversation between your character and another without anyone else joining in the middle. To denote a thread is closed, put (ATTN: [insert character(s) here]) in the title.
Here are some examples:
[INVES] - These are for murder investigation. More about these threads will be explained when we get closer to a murder taking place in the RP.
[TRIAL] - These are for murder trials. Again, more about these threads will be explained when we get closer to a murder taking place in the RP.
[MURDER] - After each chapter, those involved in the murder may roleplay out the murder in a thread with this tag. These are optional and mostly just for funand heartbreak. We'll give you a more in depth explanation on how these will go down if you ever find your character involved in a murder.
There will also be #threads channel on the discord server for you to drop a ping in any time you reply to someone's thread, that way they don't have to keep checking the forum.
Private threading
Private threading will be allowed, but we'd prefer if you at least attempted to keep most of your threads public. Private roleplaying is preferred if you are going to have your character privately reveal a spoiler or a major plot clue, or if the thread is going to be explicit in nature.
You can private thread basically anywhere you want, Skype, Discord, Google Docs, forum PM, etc. Although, please do tell us if anything important is revealed to another character in these threads.
