Humans were required to eat in order to survive. Madoka wasn't an exception to this ironclad rule and as there was absolutely no reason to starve herself for days to come, she made her way to the kitchen. Off-handedly, Madoka wondered when she even ingested her last meal, but just as quickly as this thought came, it disappeared again. This wasn't something that she should be mulling over about, as she didn't have enough information to provide a satisfactory answer.
As she stepped into the kitchen, there were two immediate things that she took notice of; first of all, the general state of this particular facility. Although it seemed well-maintained, it didn't look exactly modern - which actually fit perfectly with the rest of this structure. All the rooms she'd set foot in prior to the kitchen gave off a similar vibe. So all in all, nothing surprising about the condition of this room.
(Well, it could be always poisoned, but there was no need to act so paranoid - at least yet.)
All of that aside though, most of Madoka's attention was instantly drawn to the other human being present - who turned out to be none other than Osatsu Kei, a comedian. Truth be told, she'd never heard of them prior to this bizzare situation, but it's not like as if she was required to know every single celebrity out there, right? It's not like as if she was expecting for anyone to know about her.
The detective gave her fellow supposed(?) classmate a slight nod as a greeting, letting words accompany the gesture all the while with a rather deadpan voice (the one that she seemed to use all the time so far, really):"Hi. Anything good in here or are we doomed to starve? Or eat out of cans? Either would suck."

🐧 --- Sometimes the comedian entertained the idea of not being human. It was easier if they didn't have to eat or sleep or really, do anything. Alas, they were born unlucky. Feeling hunger weighing down on themself, they had been munching on an entire lemon as a snack in the kitchen (as if that was normal), admiring the layout of the room, and how... well, nice the kitchen looked. It was certainly a place that they'll be visiting more frequently in the future. At hearing someone walk in, they give the newcomer a simple glance before lightly nodding back at her, with the half-eaten lemon in their hand. It doesn't even look like they peeled off the skin what the fuck? What the fuck-- A chuckle. --- 🐧

The more time passed, the more curious Madoka found herself about the half-eaten lemon in Osatsu's hands. It certainly looked like as if they simply bit into it and that was definitely intriguing, to say the least. There weren't many people who would do that, as lemons tended to be rather sour. Honestly, she wouldn't be surprised if all dogs in the world would give them funny looks if they ever witnessed the same scene as she did.
Looking up from the yellow fruit, Madoka tilted her head slightly, one hand loosely holding the wrist of the other behind her back, as she gave her response after Osatsu finished talking:"Edible enough that I won't immediately spit it out or die of food poisoning. If it tastes good, then that's even better."
Madoka wasn't particularly picky about her food, so as long as it reached at least junk food level of taste, it was good enough for her. Then again, some junk food could taste really good nowadays... Like pizza. Oh, she could go for some pizza right about now.
"Anyway, good to hear that there's one less thing to worry about. Situation's suspicious enough as is, honestly", the detective said bluntly, not bothering to conceal her distrust on this whole thing just being a game show. Not like she was particularly worried that Osatsu would panic right about now - they didn't exactly seem the type to freak out at the smallest notion of things going south.
Eventually though, her curiousity couldn't be surpressed anymore - Madoka pointed at the lemon in their hands as she asked:"You a fan of sour stuff or are you just feeling too dead inside to care?"

🐧 --- The comedian simply nods their head in agreement at Marugou's answer, before quietly commenting with a: Then they took a bite out of the lemon as they shifted their attention back onto Marugou, silently (as someone could while eating a fruit) listening to her speak. There's not much of a change of anything on their end, and they simply blink at her a few times, before gulping it down right as she stopped speaking, and guessed on... well, why the fuck they were eating a lemon. Honestly, if they had to tell the truth-- They weren't sure either. Maybe because they mistook it for an orange. Still doesn't excuse why they have to be like this. A light-hearted chuckle comes from them, and they let their gaze wander around the kitchen, as if they were trying to lowkey find a trashcan so they could chuck this lemon that they've eaten 3/4ths of the way. It was as if they were waiting for someone to come around so they could say that joke while eating a raw lemon with the skin intact... or was it. I can't tell if Osatsu actually likes eating this or not. Either way, it was kind of making their tongue feel really weird. Finding that it was more effort than they'd like to invest in, they glance back at Marugou, giving her one of their usual smiles. With that, they just... toss the rest of the lemon into their mouth and just... eats it... I'm disgusted... --- 🐧

"Fair enough", was her response to the food poisoning comment. It was far more likely to simply feel like utter garbage instead of actually biting the dust, but if she were to present the possibilities, might as well get the worst case scenario out first - not to mention that she hadn't been overly serious about it to begin with. Sure, one should always consider every possibility, but if you got too concerned over them, you'd simply hinder yourself. That wasn't something that you wanted to do, for sure.
That aside, it seemed like as if she was more or less spot-on with her reasonigs about the lemon. Or at least, that's what Osatsu claimed, but she didn't have much of a reason to distrust their answer. After all, there really wasn't much to gain from lying - and even if, it's not like as if her life was suddenly in shambles because of it.
(Honestly, she was also curious about their shift of tone in some instances. Was that something that they did as a comedian?)
A tiny smirk appeared on her face, understanding from where Osatsu came from. God knows that she wasn't exactly thrilled by their current predicament either, but it was as they said - better to make the best out of it. As Madoka began to play with a strand of her hair a little, she said:"Oh, same. But yeah, eating a dragonfruit raw sounds like a bad idea." Not like she ever ate one of them, but they surely didn't look easy to bite into.
When she was asked a simple question, she provided an equally easy answer, which was accompanied with a nod:"Yup. To both of them, actually. Well, kinda." For a moment, she stayed silent, simply observing how Osatsu ate the entire lemon like it was nothing. Most people would pull weird faces at this point for sure... Now she wondered how they'd react to the sour food that was extremely sour - you know, the kind of sour stuff that you only eat for challenges on the Internet. Either way, she continued from where she left off:"Definitely hungry. Not sure if I want to go for something quick to grab or actually cook. And it doesn't hurt to familiarize myself with the lodge. Could be lucky for once and find a clue to what's actually going on."
The detective shrugged, before starting to look into the cabinets. The kitchen was certainly well-stocked, so they wouldn't have to worry about a shortage of supplies - yet, at least. Who knew if it would get restocked? Then again, this was a rather pessimistic take on this whole thing and Madoka wasn't quite in the mood to deal with such possibilities. It was better to hope for the best and only start worrying about the worst case scenario when it was actually upon them. Such an approach made it certainly easier to live a more joyful life.
"... You think they have frozen pizza in here?"

🐧 --- Their eyes slide over to the side as they gulp down the rest of the lemon, while throwing a nonchalant respond right back at the detective. They say, as if biting into leaves was something that they've actually done. Knowing Osatsu, it's not clear if that's true or not. Sometimes, they say things don't make a difference to them, but that's because they don't entertain the idea that they'll have a different opinion in the actual situation. But this is a little too indepth for something as weird as biting into fruit without taking off the skin. A yawn escapes them as they give a small stretch while listening to Marugou speak, nodding occasionally at some parts of her response. Ahh, they should hit the hay at some point, shouldn't they? They weren't feeling particularly tired, but... well... they really didn't have anything else to do other than to stand around, eat weird shit, and talk to some people that they bump into occasionally. There's a notable pause after that, as they tap a finger on their chin to either pretend of being in their thoughts, or actually being contemplative. --- 🐧

This strange comparison definitely left her confused and it showed on her face; raised eyebrows, slow blinking and a light tilt of her head. Madoka tried to imagine the taste of what Osatsu just described, but she came up with nothing that felt quite 'right'. It's possible that she didn't get to a satisfactory conclusion because she never ate a leaf before - or at least, not that she remembered (god knows what little Madoka put in her mouth when she was just 2 years old). The closest that Madoka got was a crunchy, raw watermelon and that still didn't answer much.
(At the same time, Madoka was starting to question Osatsu's eating habits.)
Setting all of this aside, Madoka could definitely understand from where her conversation partner came from - if you were good in cooking, then personally made food sounded much more tastier than junk food. However, Madoka wasn't exactly the best cook in the house and as she didn't have lots of time to spare (this situation being an outliner), she usually went for the most efficient way to make sure that she ate enough - even if it wasn't particularly healthy.
"Does this mean you're a good cook?", she inquired, but before getting a possiblr answer for that, she moved on to respond to the next comment as well,"I know, but can't hurt to check what kind of snacks we have if frozen pizzas aren't something that this kitchen carries."

🐧 --- There's an amused chuckle that comes from Osatsu when Marugou questions on if they're a good cook, though without any pause for them to comment, they held back from any comments until she was finished speaking. It's not clear if that was sarcasm, or it was a playful jab at Marugou with how they said it. A cheshire grin grows on their face at the end of their statement, with the grin almost seeming to radiate a very challenging vibe to it. --- 🐧

Although Madoka couldn't quite tell whether Osatsu was simply being playful or sarcastic with her, she simply decided to believe the more positive note for the moment. Just because she was a detective, didn't mean that she always expected the worst from people - not to mention that this would be a sad way to live your life, anyway.
Her eyebrows shot up in surprise when the other actually offered her to demonstrate their abilities in terms of cooking. Huh, this comedian was definitely full of surprises, but that kind of came with the job description, didn't it? Either way, even with the suspicious grin on their face, she decided to give it a shot:"Sure. You made me curious now."
(And who was she to decline free food?)

🐧 --- Osatsu nods their head in acknowledgment, but they don't... seem to be making an effort to move at the current moment. Instead, they lazily gesture to the detective with a hand. A shrug. --- 🐧

Ah, there it was again - the tone shift. It must be a quirk of theirs, right? Then again, there's a far simpler solution to clear that mystery up once and for all - or at least, it would happen in the best case scenario.
"Is it some kinda tick that you emphasize some words so strangely? Have been wondering about that one ever since we woke up here, truth be told", she bluntly asked, fully aware that it hasn't been even that long since they've been roaming around in the lodge.
"And uh, I guess it wouldn't hurt to get surprised once in awhile. I'm not really picky, so go with whatever floats your boat. No allergies here whatsoever, so go wild." What an incredibly informative and helpful answer, Madoka.
